Workshop & Meetings on “Environmental Friendly Techniques for Textile Sector” of Gujarat by UBA

A Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) was signed in the month of June, 2013 between the Gujarat Pollution Control Board, the German Federal Environment Agency [Umweltbundesamt (UBA)] and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to promote of Best Available Techniques (BAT). As a part of this cooperaiton, experts from UBA visited Gujarat from April 13th to 27th, 2015.

As part of the visit, a 3-day brainstorming session with the GPCB nominated ‘Working Group’ was organised from 17th to 20th April, 205 to discuss on the ‘Reference Document’ which was prepared under the IGEP programme in collaboration with GPCB and Gujarat Cleaner Production Centre (GCPC) for the textile industries of Gujarat. Mrs. Brigitte Zietlow, together with Mrs. Almut Reichart and Mrs. Brigit Brahner, experts from UBA steered the brainstorming session with the sector experts from industries, GPCB officials, GIZ officials, GCPC officials and consultants followed by a one day workshop with the larger group of industries which was held at the South Gujarat Textile Processors Association, Surat, Gujarat on 21st of April, 2015.

UBA officials presented the purpose, design and structure of a BREF (Best Available Techniques Reference Document) document during the meetings and the workshop and a roadmap was evolved for preparing the reference document in line with the EU-BREF documents. UBA experts also highlighted various ‘Best Available Techniques’ that are relevant to the sector. Industries from the textile sector agreed to provide support and initiate the process of developing the BREF documents in cooperation with UBA & GPCB.
