Workshop on “Best Available Techniques for Pharmaceutical & Chemical Sectors”

A Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) was signed in the month of June, 2013 between the Gujarat Pollution Control Board, the German Federal Environment Agency [Umweltbundesamt (UBA)] and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to promote of Best Available Techniques (BAT). As a part of this cooperaiton, experts from UBA visited Gujarat from April 13th to 27th, 2015.

As part of the visit, a one day workshop was conducted on April 23rd, 2015 at Ankleshwar with an aim to initiate awareness/ knowledge and in turn to facilitate promotion of Best Available Techniques (BAT) so as to strengthen environmental management and pollution control in the ‘Pharmaceutical and Chemical’ industries. This was also intended to explore the need and utility of preparation of a ‘Reference Document’ in line with EU-BREF document.

Ms. Brigit Brahner, expert from UBA presented the Best Available Techniques in the Chemical Sector – Organic Fine Chemicals, Networking for an information exchange on environmental standards in the EU, Minimum requirements for waste water discharge (Implementation of BAT conclusions into national binding rules) & Purpose, design and structure of reference documents on BAT which was followed by an interactive session actively participated by the participants.
