First Project Advisory Committee Meeting

The first meeting of Project Advisory Committee (PAC) for 'Sustainable and Environment-friendly Industrial Production' (SEIP) project was organised at SIIDCUL’s Regional Office in the Integrated Industrial Estate (IIE), Haridwar on 29th December, 2016. This committee has representatives from SIIDCUL, Pollution Control Research Institute (PCRI), Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB), SMAU, SEWA and individual industries. The meeting was attended by 10 officials to monitor, review and advice on project progress so far and activity plan for the next quarter under the SEIP project.

During the meeting, progress under each of the project activity was discussed. A summary is given below:

  • ETP improvement/Upgradation: Representative from SMAU suggested names of some more companies for participation under ETP upgradation and improvement activity.
  • Skill development training of helpers/technician of ETPs/CETP: It was reported that the PCRI was contacted by the GIZ team and apprised with the on-going efforts of GIZ and Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) towards development of a market-led system of trainings for the operators of ETPs/CETPs. In principal, PCRI expressed their interest in getting affiliated with SCGJ to impart skill development trainings to the helpers/technician of ETPs/CETP and for knowledge sharing.
  • Environmental drives and Outreach:It was mentioned that many activities like street sweeping, drains cleaning, etc. were started after the 1st meeting of the facilitation team on environment drives held on 29th November 2016 in IIE Haridwar. Members of the PAC highlighted the need of Solid waste management in IIE Haridwar for environment improvement.
  • Production Process Improvement: A best practice about “Reusing/recycling the wood waste in furniture and maintenance of the township” was presented by the General Manager of Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) and official of PCRI for cross-learning.

PAC members appreciated the progress under SEIP project activities and the next quarter plan. Representatives from industry associations-SMAU and SEWA assured wider promotion of SEIP programmes amongst their member companies for participation in the project activities.
