Seminar on “India Business and Biodiversity Initiative”

To guide and mentor business organisations in India on biodiversity conservation and sustainable use, the CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development launched the India Business & Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI). This business-led initiative serves as a national platform for business, to promote sharing and learning, ultimately leading to mainstreaming sustainable management of biological diversity by business. IBBI was initiated by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, and is supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

A seminar on “India Business and Biodiversity Initiative"  - Reimagining Business for Biodiversity Enhancement Case Studies from Indian Industry was organised by GIZ, on 03rd July 2017 from 15:00 – 16:30 hrs at Conference Hall, Centre of Excellence, Vapi, as a part of one month long Industrial Area Environment Improvement Drive 2017 in Vapi GIDC Gujarat.

The seminar commenced with welcome remarks by Mr. Hitendra Thakkar, President, Vapi Industrial Association (VIA) followed by statement on the importance of the environment and biodiversity by Mr. A. G. Patel, RO, GPCB.

The seminar delivered by Dr. Pravir Deshmukh, Counsellor, CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development covered aspects of introduction to biodiversity, impacts of industries / business on biodiversity, case studies for enhancing biodiversity by industries / businesses and benefits of enhanced biodiversity to businesses.

In the concluding remarks, VIA expressed an interest to share the initiatives and possibility for case studies from SMEs so as to get direct relevance for industries in Vapi GIDC on biodiversity initiatives.
