Two-day National Conference on “Sustainable and Environment-friendly Industrial Production”

GIZ organised a two-day National Conference on “Sustainable and Environment-friendly Industrial Production” for the dissemination of results, successful models and experiences so as to enable replication and plan further actions by various relevant agencies across the country. The purpose of the conference was:

  • Sharing of successes and experiences from SEIP Project
  • Exchange of experiences, information and knowledge
  • Enabling networking among various stakeholders from the national level and States
  • Bringing out suggestions for application and replication of successful models and for improving framework conditions

The main topics discussed during the conference were:

  • Session 1: Successful Models - Resource Efficiency & Pollution Reduction in Industries
  • Session 2: Successful Models – Performance Improvement of ETPs and CETPs
  • Session 3: Successful Models - Planning and Retrofitting of Industrial Areas
  • Session 4: Successful Models - Participatory Approaches for Environmental Improvement in Industrial Areas
  • Session 5: Panel Discussions
  • Exhibition of SEIP Success Stories and Networking Meetings

The workshop commenced with opening remarks from MoEFCC and GIZ and then followed by discussions in various sessions. The conference witnessed active participation by all invitees present. An exhibition on SEIP and the project success stories was also held.  A panel discussion on:

  • existing framework at the national/state level for industrial wastewater management & gaps;
  • requirements for improving framework – technical guidelines, policy/plans/programmes, legal framework, institutional structures & capacities, financial aspects;
  • replication and application strategies for implementing successful models.

was also held. Participants in the panel discussion included Johanna Jagnow, GIZ; Sharat Kumar, DSIIDC; Dr. Paritosh Tyagi, Former Chairman, CPCB; Dr. G. V.  Subrahmanyam, Advisor, MoEFCC

The participants highly appreciated the contents of the conference, shared their feedback and pledged support for the project initiatives and volunteered to implement these measures as well.
