03 September 2020

An online meeting was held between CPCB and GIZ to discuss the proposed Standard Industry Classification System for Environmental Enforcement in India. During the meeting, GIZ gave a presentation on the proposed Standard Industry Classification System for India. In the presentation, it was shared how CPCB’s industry categorisation was evolved, existing industry categorisation/classifications in India, gaps and needs for improved industry categorisation system, and finally proposed industry classification system.

The presentation higlighted the CPCB categorisation system and compared it with national industrial classification system (NICS-2008), Ministry of Finance’s Classification System (e.g. GSTIN-HSN & SACS), and International Industry Classification System (ISIC-2008). During the meeting, CPCB officials acknowledged that the proposed classification system is quite detailed and requested for information which is presented in proposed classification but not available in CPCB’s categorisation for taking it forward. GIZ agreed to provide the information requested by CPCB and further support on this project activity.
