Clean Air in Mexico: Institutional and Governance Framework

A webinar on "Clean Air in Mexico: Institutional and Governance Framework" was conducted on May 12, 2020 with an objective "To understand the institutional and governance structure of Mexico for combating Air Pollution and to establish a base framework for sharing information during the cooperation."  

The key topics discussed during the webinar were:

  • Roles of different organisations in Mexico
  • Legal framework and Enforcement (Inspection and surveillance)
  • Federal institutional arrangement for environment (air quality)
  • Local institutional arrangement for air quality
  • Air quality management and monitoring
  • National emissions inventory for Mexico
  • Programs for air quality management (ProAire)

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change, Federal Attorney for Environment Protection and representatives from Leon City and Salamanca-Celaya-Irapuato City participated from the Mexican side. Whereas, officials from Clean Air division, MoEFCC, CPCB, OSPCB, representatives from city administration from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack and representatives from sectoral departments dealing with Clean Air in these two cities participated from the Indian side.
