Surat Clean Air City Action Plans – Prioritising Actions for Pollution Reduction

As part of the Indo-German Development Cooperation, GIZ India, under the Study and Expert Funds project on “Support to the National Clean Air Programme” supports the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) Government of India and the city of Surat with the objective to that “the strategic and operational implementation of India’s National Clean Air Programme to effectively combat air pollution in selected cities are strengthened”.

One of the focus areas of the NCAP project is to help the implementation of Clean Air Action Plans, chiefly in the city of Surat. The workshop on Clean Air City Action Plans.

Dr. Axel Friedrich, a senior clean air expert from Germany assessed the Clean Air Action Plan of Surat and presented his suggestions on how to achieve air pollution reduction and shared his experiences from Germany.

The workshop was focused on the following:

  • Providing insights into the adequacies of the clean air action plan of Surat
  • Prioritising actions so that the targeted pollution reduction of 20 to 30% is achieved in Surat cost effectively and efficiently.
  • Interactive (question & answer) session

The workshop brought together stakeholders and experts currently engaged in planning and implementing cleanair action plans with a chance to interact with Dr Friedrich. The stakeholders and experts provided their inputs and suggestions during the brainstorming session with Dr. Friedrich. GIZ facilitated the discussions to discuss potential actions for boosting the implementation of the clean air action plans in the city.
