PRANA portal launched

On the occassion of the second "International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies", Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, launched a portal named “PRANA” – Portal for Regulation of Air-pollution in Non-Attainment cities for monitoring and manging implementation of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). PRANA meaning 'life' in Sanskrit, is  portal for regulation of air pollution in 132 cities across the country. Speaking during the event, the Hon'ble Minister asked all stakeholders including the citizens to sincerely and earnestly contribute towards achieving cleaner air and healthier lives for all. Air, water and land are three important ascpects that need to be conserved to sustain life on Earth. 

The Portal has been a collaborative effort of MoEFCC, CPCB and GIZ. GIZ supports the reduction of air pollution in three Indian cities within the framework of the “Export Initiative for Green Technologies” on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). PRANA portal provides comprehensive information related to NCAP- programme details, progress, city action plans, implementation updates by city/state/national level agencies, air quality data andtrends, support from international organisations, reference documents, events, success stories and testimonials etc. It also provides real-time information on air pollution levels in various Indian cities, actions taken to reduce air pollution, and milestones achieved so far in implementing air pollution action plans. In addition, relevant reference materials, such as air quality standards, methods for conducting studies, and other helpful foundational documents are available to users through PRANA.

The Minister said that the Government is now actively linking all policy approaches to give paramount importance to conserve public goods like water, air and Earth. The PRANA portal is meant to support tracking of physical as well as financial status of city air action plan implementation and disseminate information on air quality to public. 

Minister of State in the MoEFCC, Shri Ashwini Choubey, while addressing the event said that Clean Air is intricately linked to a host of benefits for the human being and gave the slogan,  "Swacch Pawan, Neel Gagan", emphasizing that for Blue Skies, we need to work towards making the air clean and stressed on the adoption of a sustainable lifestyle for all. 

Ms. Payden, Deputy WHO represntative in India; Mr. Naresh Pal Gangwar, Joint Secretary MoEFCC; Mr. Walter J. Linder, Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany in India; Mr. Atul Bagai, Head UNEP India and Mr. Tanmay Kumar, Chairman CPCB also spoke during the event.
