Development of Best Available Techniques (BAT) Reference Document (BREF) for Textiles Sector in India

A webinar was conducted on ‘Developing Best Available Techniques (BAT) Reference Document (BREF) for Textiles Sector in India’, Under the ongoing Indo German Development Cooperation, the project on “Best Available Techniques (BAT) Reference Document for Textiles Sector” by GIZ. The objective of the webinar was to understand the process of developing best available techniques reference document for textile sector in India.

Mr. Chirag Bhimani; Senior Technical Advisor, GIZ, India gave a brief introduction on the project and project activities. A presentation was given by Ms. Almut Reichart and Ms. Brigitte Zietlow; German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt - UBA), Germany and Dr Harald; European expert, on BREF Process & Structure of the BREF document for Textiles Sector. Insights were given on the importance and benefits of BREF process for the textile industries and regulatory bodies in India and the way forward to implement it in the other sectors and states. Participants further asked questions on providing benchmarks to the industries.

In addition, Dr G.V Subrahmanyam; ex- MoEFCC and Dr Bharat Jain, Member Secretary GCPC suggested to conduct more knowledge and information exchange webinars for the benefits of textile industries and regulatory bodies.

The participants involved in the webinar were from various organizations like Gujarat Pollution Control Board, Gujarat Cleaner Production Centre, Textile Research Associations, International organisations, Textile Industry Experts, etc.
